Wash a Section of Your Wig

Oh my. Probably more than most, wig wearers understand the importance of rolling with the punches. And yet, it doesn’t make it less maddening when something unexpected happens. For example, did you just watch your baby spit up on a section of your freshly-washed wig? Did you drag your hair through spaghetti sauce? What about when you used your cookie-dough-covered fingers to brush a strand of hair out of your face?

All of these, and many more examples, bring up the question: can I wash just a section of my wig?

Absolutely no worries, ladies. No matter if you are rocking a synthetic hair wig or natural hair wig, rest assured, you can wash just that section. No matter how it managed to get itself dirty (There’s enough shame going around. Let’s blame the hair, here, for getting us into this mess). Here are the steps:

  1. Fill a small mixing bowl (or Tupperware container) with cool water.
  2. Add one capful of shampoo.
  3. Separate the dirty piece of hair.
  4. Dunk just the dirty piece repetitively. No scrubbing, please.
  5. Repeat the dunking in clean water (to rinse).

If it’s a large piece, you will want to condition it too. To do so (it might seem familiar):

  1. Fill a small mixing bowl (or Tupperware container) with cool water.
  2. Add one capful of conditioner.
  3. Separate the dirty piece of hair.
  4. Dunk just the dirty piece repetitively. No scrubbing, please.
  5. Repeat the dunks in clean water (to rinse).

Once you are done, gently pat dry and let air dry. If it is a human hair wig, once dry it can be curled or flat ironed. If it is a synthetic hair wig it should just fall back into shape right away. You will be ready to go about your busy day with confidence and great-smelling hair! If you have any questions, we are happy to help.
